The response to a "suspicious package" caused major delays on the city's Northwest Side on Monday evening.
Service on the O'Hare branch of the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line was temporarily suspended between the Jefferson Park and California stations because of police activity, according to a customer alert.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that a suitcase with wires sticking out of it was found at the bottom of an escalator at the Addison stationhouse. A law enforcement source later said that nothing harmful was found in the package.
The investigation prompted the full closure of the Kennedy Expressway (Interstate 90/94) between Irving Park Road and Belmont Avenue.
Via Twitter, Augie DeLaRosa said the Kennedy Expressway was "like a parking lot."
Lanes on the Kennedy began to reopen at around 8 p.m., with ramp closures to Addison remaining, according to Illinois State Police.
Service on the Blue Line resumed at about 8:30 p.m., but trains continued to bypass the Addison stop.
