Suburban School Bus Driver Charged With DUI After Police Say He Crashed Into SUV, Another Bus While Transporting Kids

Both vehicles Desparte allegedly crashed into sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported, police said.

A school bus driver was charged with driving under the influence Wednesday morning in Crystal Lake after allegedly crashing into an SUV and another school bus while dropping children off at school, police said.

Wayne Desparte, 75, of the 4300 block of Greenfield Drive in Lake in the Hills, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence and a misdemeanor count of child endangerment.

Crystal Lake police responded at 7:40 a.m. after Desparte allegedly crashed his bus, which had children on board, into another school bus in front of Hannah Beardsley Middle School.

Police said Desparte had also crashed into an SUV while driving on Terra Cotta Road on the way to the school. Officers said that Desparte was under the influence of prescription drugs during the incidents.

Both vehicles Desparte allegedly crashed into sustained minor damage and no injuries were reported, police said.

A driver was the only person inside the second bus at the time of the crash.
