The Chicago Blackhawks got a great goaltending performance out of Antti Raanta on Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, but they will need him to give them a couple more, as Corey Crawford will not be accompanying the team on their upcoming road trip.
Crawford missed Tuesday’s game with an upper-body injury after he missed the team’s morning skate. Head coach Joel Quenneville termed Crawford’s condition “day-to-day,” and had cautioned yesterday that the goaltender may not make the trip to Nashville on Thursday.
After Wednesday’s practice at the United Center, Quenneville told the media that Crawford won’t be playing on Saturday in St. Louis either, and even hinted that Scott Darling, who was called up from the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday, could make a start if Crawford doesn’t return this weekend.
Darling hasn’t played in an NHL game during his career, but put up some solid numbers with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL last season, posting a 2.00 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 26 appearances.
Crawford currently has a 3-0-1 record with a 1.66 GAA and a save percentage of .926 in four starts this season for the Blackhawks.
