Two Officers Injured in West Side Crash

Charges pending against driver of sedan

Two Chicago Police officers were injured in a crash when another driver allegedly ran a red light late Sunday in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The officers were responding to a call of a person shot and heading northbound in the 0-100 block of North Kedzie Avenue about 11:50 p.m. when a male driving a sedan failed to stop at a red light and struck the squad car, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The driver of the sedan tried to run from the scene after the crash, but was quickly taken into custody, Alfaro said.

The crash appeared to be alcohol-related, and charges were pending against the driver of the sedan.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where they were listed in stable condition early Monday, Alfaro said.
