Transit on Metra's BNSF Resumes After Crane Collapse

Service on Metra's BNSF Railway resumed at about 5 p.m. Wednesday after being stopped for several hours due to a fallen crane spanning the tracks.

The crane, used for overhead signal maintenance, fell and blocked all three tracks just west of Cass Avenue in Westmont shortly after noon.

Delays persisted for a few hours as commuters headed home during the evening rush. By 10 p.m., Metra said service was mostly back to normal.

No injuries were reported.
