A teenaged boy who was a Chicago Public Schools student, was fatally shot Friday night on the South Side.
Police responded about 7:35 p.m. to a reported shooting in the 6900 block of South Wabash Avenue and found a 16-year-old boy lying in the middle of the street with a gunshot wound to the upper back area, police said.
Reggis Washington, 16, of the 7000 block of S. Wabash Ave., was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. at Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
A Saturday autopsy revealed Washington died of a gunshot wound to the back and ruled the death a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Washington was a 10th grade student at Innovations High School of Arts Integration with Youth Charter Connection School, Chicago Public Schools spokeswoman Monique Bond said.
According to Bond, school records show Washington was 17 years old.
Witnesses told police the teen was running and collapsed.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating, but nobody was in custody early Saturday.
Police have been dealing with a flurry of shootings in the last four days, including two that involved officers. There have been more than 40 shootings since Wednesday, and at least five people have died.
