The Chicago Police Department has suspended an off-duty officer who was charged with allegedly pulling out a gun during an argument outside a bar in suburban Rosemont.
"Internal Affairs responded immediatley and suspended the officer, who is still on probation as he just recently completed training," the department said in a statement.
The altercation occurred just before 3 a.m. at Park Tavern, located in the 5400 block of Park Place according to Rosemont Police. Authorities responding to a fight at the tavern said that off-duty Officer William Szepi was trying to help bouncers escort people outside after a fight.
During that incident, Szepi allegedly got into an argument with other patrons and pulled out a 9mm pistol from his waistband and started pointing it in front of him.
Chicago police officials say that if the allegations are substantiated, Szepi would face additional discipline, including potential termination.
"Internal Affairs will work in conjunction with Rosemont Police and the probationary member could face additional penalties, including termination if the allegations are substantiated," the department said.
Szepi was taken into custody after the incident and was later released on bond.
