The shooting happened in an apartment in the 100 block of East 146th Street, police said in a news release. The boy suffered a single gunshot wound to the head and a weapon was recovered from the scene, police said. Detectives are interviewing the people involved who are cooperating, police said.
The boys cousins were apparently playing with a gun in the third-floor apartment.

A neighbor rused to help the boy get to an ambulance.
