Man Arrested, Charged With Sexual Assault in Suburban Ford Heights

The man allegedly slammed the victim's arm in a car door, then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint

The Cook County Sheriff’s Department has made an arrest in the sexual assault of a woman in south suburban Ford Heights earlier this year.

According to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart, 57-year-old Larry Shannon was taken into custody on charges that he sexually assaulted a woman as she tried to get into her car.

Police say that the woman was trying to get into her car in the 1300 block of Park Avenue in the early hours of July 28 when Shannon allegedly slammed the door on her arm and pulled out a gun. Shannon then allegedly ordered the woman to a nearby field, where he sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, according to police.

The woman drove to Richton Park, where a friend took her to an area hospital. DNA evidence collected from the victim on the day of the assault matches Shannon, according to authorities, and he was taken into custody this week.

Shannon faces felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault in the case. He has been ordered held without bond, and will next appear in court on Oct. 16.
