Convicted Sex Offender Charged With Sexually Assaulting 6-Year-Old Neighbor

A 60-year-old man, who's already been convicted of sexual abuse at least twice, has been charged with sexually assaulting his 6-year-old neighbor outside his west suburban apartment.

David Zientek, of Stickney, has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault for allegedly "engaging in sex acts" with a 6-year-old child on separate occasions between February and July of this year, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. Judge Peter Felice on Tuesday ordered Zientek held on a $1.5 million bond.

Prosecutors said the child lived near Zientek and allege he would repeatedly talk to the child outside his apartment building.

“During these conversations, Zientek would often reach inside the victim’s clothes and sexually assault the child,” prosecutors said.

On July 19, a witness reportedly saw Zientek assaulting the child, “placing his hands inside of the child’s clothing at least six times during a one-hour period," prosecutors said.

The neighbor called Stickney police and Zientek was arrested at the scene.

Zientek has been convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse twice since 1987, and was sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Aug. 20. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
