A convicted child murderer and molester released from prison last week has been arrested again, according to police.
Richard Dobeski walked out of state prison July 16 in Michigan City. Although he was not wanted at the time of his release, police warned the public to be aware that he was out of prison.
The 67-year-old convict had one week from his release to register as a sex offender, but failed to do so, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Department.
Officials arrested Dobeski at the central library in Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.
"After consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, and further review and deliberation, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office determined that this was the appropriate time to arrest Mr. Dobeski," Marion County Sheriff John Layton said of his arrest.
Dobeski was sentenced to serve two life sentences consecutively for strangling two siblings to death in 1964.
The murders are considered to be one of the most horrific crimes in memory for the otherwise peaceful town of Long Beach, Indiana: A 6-year-old girl and her 3-year old brother were found stabbed and strangled in the crawl space of Dobeski’s home. Dobeski was just 16 at the time he brutally murdered his young next door neighbors.

After an appeal in the 1980s, his sentence was reduced to 40 years and he was released in 2003. But in 2008 Dobeski acted out again and was convicted on seperate charges of child molestation and possession of child pornography, landing him back behind bars.
Authorities and residents kept close tabs on Dobeski's whereabouts during his one week of freedom, as police believed because of his background it was not a question of if, but when, the convicted killer would commit another crime.
“Mr. Dobeski is a child murderer, he’s a child molester” said Long Beach Chief Marshall Robert Sulkowski. “I’m almost certain he will [offend again].”
Dobeski will now head back to court to face charges of failing to register as a sex offender.
