Beware the Man in the Green Minivan

Police issue community alert after teens report sexual assaults

Two teenagers on the city's Southwest side say they've been sexually assaulted by a man in a green minivan, prompting Chicago police to issue an alert in the community.

A 17-year-old girl says she was sexually assaulted on March 4 in the 8200 block of S. Sacramento. She said that she was forced into the green van at around 7:15 p.m. Another teen reported to police that a man had tried to get her to come to his van earlier that morning.

An 16-year-old says she was sexually assaulted on March 5 in the 7900 block of S. Maplewood Ave. The girl says she was forced into the van by gunpoint.

Police said the man would talk to the girls and get them to come near his van and then would physically pull them in and assault them.

An 18-year-old woman has also told police that a man in a green minivan exposed himself to her near the 7900 block of S. Pulaski.

In all four cases, police say the teens describe a black man in his 20s driving the green minivan. They say he has black hair in braids and twists. Police say the girls do not know each other.

Teenage girls are on the lookout this morning.

Sandra Cichocki, 14, and Victoria Hernandez, 15, waited together at a bus stop this morning after Cichocki's mother told her about the attacks.

"I'm glad I'm with someone" she said.
