Often times during severe weather, power lines become increasingly damaged. In light of the potential severe weather headed for the Chicago area Wednesday, ComEd has increased staffing and is preparing equipment to quickly respond to their service areas in the event of power outages.
“ComEd has developed a plan and is prepared to have the necessary resources available to respond in the event that there is weather-related power issues that impact our customers,” ComEd Executive Vice President Terence R. Donnelly said in a statement. “We understand the impact a loss of electrical service can have on our customers. We are closely monitoring the incoming weather system and will execute plans to ensure impacted customers are restored quickly and safely.”
In case power lines are damaged, ComEd released several precautions residents should take:
-Contact ComEd immediately if you experience a power outage or text OUT to 26633 (COMED) to report the outage.
-Call ComEd immediately if you confront a power line that is down at 1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661) or 1-800-95-LUCES (1-800-955-8237) for Spanish-speaking customers. Residents can also access their website at ComEd.com and report the location of the incident.
-Avoid a downed power line at all costs. The line has the potential to still be energized and very dangerous.
-If ComEd crews are working near your residence, do not approach them with questions of power restoration times as they are associated with electrical equipment and the space in which they are working may be hazardous.
