ComEd Crews Head East After Massive Storm Causes Power Outages

Following a damaging storm that caused at least 5 deaths and over 5,000 flight cancellations, more than 2 million people endured power outages across the East Coast Friday and ComEd is sending crews to help its providers repair and restore service.

A ferocious mix of heavy rain, strong winds, sporadic snow and coastal flooding left around 800,000 ComEd customers without power. The company’s facility in Chicago announced it would send more than 630 in-house and contractor line workers Wednesday, to support its sister Exelon utilities in repairing significant storm devastation.

“After completing safety trainings upon arrival, ComEd crews will help repair damage and restore service as quickly and safely as possible during an expected multi-day restoration effort,” the company said in a news release.

ComEd crews were said to arrive at the South Chicago ComEd location and depart to Somerset, Pennsylvania.

Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC), one of the nation’s largest electric utilities with approximately 10 million customers. ComEd provides service to approximately four million customers across Northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state’s population.
