Elevated Excessive Cold Risk For Chicago Area This Week: National Weather Service

Thursday looks to be the coldest day of the week as highs dip into the single digits

An elevated excessive cold risk has been issued for multiple Chicago-area counties—with temperatures expected to drop into the single digits above and below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

The hazardous weather outlook is northcentral and northeastern Illinois as well as northwest Indiana.

While Monday and Tuesday stay chilly, with highs sitting in the 20s, Wednesday will likely mark the first big drop in temperature.

Temperatures will bottom out below zero in some areas on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Wind chills of 25 below to 25 below are possible Wednesday night, the weather service reports. Accumulating snow is expected Friday and could continue into Saturday in some areas.

A wintry mix is possible Saturday in some areas, including possible ice accumulations. Wind chills as low as 15 to 40 below zero are possible Saturday night through Monday morning, the weather service reports.
