Cocaine Bust Turns Into DEA-Involved Shooting, Suspect Killed

A U.S Drug Enforcement Administration agent shot and killed a man Saturday during a cocaine bust after authorities say the man hit the agent with his vehicle.

Authorities said the incident took place on the 700 block of South Central near the Eisenhower Expressway Saturday morning.

According to a DEA spokeswoman, officials were investigating a “multiple-kilogram cocaine distribution point…(where) agents and officers observed an exchange of packages.”

Officials said the man shortly fled the scene and a police car attempted to stop the vehicle south of the I-290 and Central Avenue area, when the man turned his car and hit one of the DEA Agents’ vehicle.

The agent fired his weapon and despite an attempt at providing medical assistance, the man died, the spokeswoman confirmed.

Police said “a significant amount of cocaine was found in the suspect vehicle.”

The agent suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized for treatment, the spokeswoman said.

The investigation was ongoing and the man killed was not immediately identified by authorities.
