Clerk: Cook County Issues 10,000th Same-Sex Marriage License

Cook County saw it's 10,000th same-sex marriage license issued this week, and it didn't come without celebration, according to the county clerk's office.

Just before 11 a.m. Wednesday the office gave out its 10,000th marriage license to a same-sex couple after ending Tuesday with 9,999 licenses issued.

The lucky pair was 50-year-old Anthony Aranda and 49-year-old Terry Beauchamp. The two live in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood and have been together for 18 years.

To celebrate hitting the 10,000 mark, the couple received several gifts donated to the Cook County Clerk's office, including a honeymoon package featuring hotel accomations, dining and entertainment by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, two roundtrip plane tickets from Chicago to Las Vegas, a romatic dinner for two at Appellation Wine Bar and Restaurant in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood, and "thank you" cards and stationery from Chicago stationery designer La Familia Green.

The office has been documenting the journey to the milestone number.

Orr has used the hashtag #JourneyTo10k to chronicle the couples who have gotten married since it was legalized in February of 2014.
