Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has always held a special place of contempt in the hearts of Chicago Bears fans, and he gleefully took one final chance to troll Jay Cutler as he heads into retirement.
Speaking on “The Rich Eisen Show,” Matthews addressed Cutler’s departure from the Bears, saying that he will miss the opportunity to pad his stats against the quarterback.
“Listen, I always enjoyed playing against Jay,” Matthews said. “I’m glad I got a lot of sacks against him. I’ll miss that the most. But hopefully the next in line in Chicago will be as equally willing to help me pad my stats.”
Matthews has eight and a half career sacks against the Bears, all of them against Cutler. The only team that he’s registered more sacks against is Minnesota, with 10 sacks to his credit. Matthews also has three interceptions in his career against the Bears.
Six of Matthews’ sacks came in the span of two games back in 2012, when he and the Packers absolutely terrorized the Bears.
Matthews has not registered a sack against Chicago in the Packers’ last four games however, so his stat-padding has slowed down considerably in recent years. He only has one sack in the Packers’ last eight games against their NFC North rivals.
