CityTarget Opens in Chicago Loop

The location opened Wednesday to the public and celebrates its official grand opening July 29

Target may just hit the bull's eye with people working in Chicago's Loop.

The Minneapolis-based retailer opened Chicago’s first CityTarget store Wednesday morning in the historic Sullivan Center location at 1 S. State St. It’s the same building where shoppers once packed in to buy clothing and household goods from Carson Pirie Scott.

The 124,000-square-foot store, two-floor location features a pharmacy, groceries, apparel, accessories, toys, sporting goods, electronics and Chicago-themed merchandise.

It also houses a Pret A Manger restaurant on the first floor, marking the sixth eatery that the British sandwich and salad chain has opened in the Chicago area.

Shoppers also can buy wine or groceries from a full grocery section within the store.

The location opened Wednesday to the public and celebrates its official grand opening July 29. The chain had been eying the historic Loop space for more than a year before announcing its lease early last year.
