City of Chicago to Install Red Light Cameras on Michigan Avenue

The Chicago Department of Transportation announced Friday that they will be installing two new red light cameras on one of the city’s busiest streets.

According to a press release, two red light cameras will be installed on Michigan Avenue, and will be activated on Jan. 22. The cameras will be placed at the intersection of Michigan and Ontario Street, and at the intersection of Michigan and Jackson Boulevard, according to CDOT.

The cameras will be activated on Monday, but tickets will not be issued until Feb. 5, giving drivers two weeks to adjust their driving habits on the busy street, according to police.

The department cited a study by Northwestern University that said installing red light cameras should be moved to different intersections to improve motorist safety in the city.

Drivers who are caught going through red lights on the new cameras will be required to pay a fine of $100, according to the city’s website.
