Dominick Earns Third Term as Cicero's President

Larry Dominick was first elected to the post in 2005

Larry Dominick on Tuesday evening earned a third term as Cicero's Town President.

With nearly all precincts reporting as of 9:25 p.m., Dominick had earned nearly 61 percent of the vote, besting challengers Joseph Pontarelli and Juan Ochoa, who'd earned 9 percent and 30 percent of the vote, respectively.

"There's a lot of good people behind us, and the people of Cicero deserve the best and they're going to get it," Dominick told supporters at Al’s Restaurant on Cermak Road.

The race had been muddied recently with voter intimidation allegations.

Rep. Luis Gutierrez and Ochoa had asked Cook County Clerk David Orr and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez to investigate allegations that Dominick's supporters, including town employees, tried to intimidate Latino voters requesting mail-in ballots. Most Cicero residents are Latino.

However, Cicero officials said they were investigating what appeared to be ballot irregularities.

Town spokesman Ray Hanania said there was a jump in absentee ballots. In the past, roughly 400 absentee ballots were requested. About 2,000 went out this year.

Orr says his office would look at all allegations.
