UPDATE: Person being questioned, sources say
The families of two teens were struggling Wednesday to find answers and peace following a shooting a night earlier at a Church's Fried Chicken restaurant on the city's south side.
Seven people were hit when bullets started flying at around 7 p.m. at the restaurant at South Halsted and West 66th Streets.
Two teens died. The medical examiner's office on Wednesday identified them as Dantril Brown, 17, of the 6800 block of South Emerald Street and Jawan Ross, 16, of the 6600 block of South Stewart Street.
"My grandson belonged to me not whoever took it upon themselves to kill him," said Ross' grandmother, Georgia Jackson.
Community Activist Andrew Holmes reiterated police officers' belief that the shooting stemmed from an argument outside the restaurant. The shooter chased his intended victim into the restaurant with a handgun and opened fire, striking seven people, he said.
"It makes no sense. It's always the ones getting ready to go to college, getting ready to get scholarships for basketball or whatever and they're the ones that get taken away, and he was one of them kids," said Brown's grandmother, Queen Brown.
Five people, ranging in age from 15 to 58, were also hit by gunfire. As of Wednesday morning, one person was in critical condition, three in serious condition and one is in the good condition.
No one was in custody Wednesday morning as police continue looking for the shooter.
