Christmas Music Returns Early to Chicago Radio Station

"With all the turmoil in the world today, we felt Chicago needed a little more Christmas right now."

Round-the-clock Christmas music makes its return to Chicago radio a few days early this year.

Starting at 4:35 p.m. on Tuesday, 93.9 MYfm will broadcast "100 percent Christmas music," all day and all night through the holidays.

The switch comes earlier than last year's Nov. 10 takeover, a move the station's parent company said was intentional.

"With all the turmoil in the world today, we felt Chicago needed a little more Christmas right now," said Matt Scarano, president of iHeartMedia Markets Group’s Chicago Region, in a statement. "The extension of the Christmas music season will allow Chicagoans to get into the Holiday spirit even more this year."

The station shared a letter from "Santa" on social media, announcing the switch to the cheers of some followers and annoyance of others.

But station leadership doesn't seem to mind either way.

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year and we’re so happy that millions of Chicagoan’s choose to make 93.9 MYfm part of their families’ annual holiday traditions," said Program Director Mick Lee in a statement.
