The latest patch of fall rain sticks around for the next couple days, replaced by chillier temperatures.
Overcast skies dominate Tuesday with periods of rain and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures remain mild for this time of year in the mid- to upper 50s in Chicago and north suburbs, and low 60s in the south suburbs and Northwest Indiana.
But hang on to those umbrellas -- and hats. Wind gusts reach 28 mph at times throughout the day, and rain, heavy at times, continues Tuesday night.
Showers are expected to taper off through the night, according to NBCChicago meteorologist Andy Avalos, but some rain is likely Wednesday morning.
After a mild start, temps dip into the 40s Wednesday afternoon and stay that way through the rest of the week.
A mix of sun and clouds washes away rain Thursday and Friday, but highs reach only the low 40s.
Temperatures pick up slightly over the weekend.
