Child Injured After Carnival Rides Collide in Suburban Midlothian

The child was not riding on the rides when they collided, but was likely hit by debris

A child was taken to an area hospital after two carnival rides collided in suburban Midlothian on Thursday evening. 

According to the Midlothian Fire Department, firefighters were called to the St. Christopher Catholic Church at approximately 5:56 p.m. after two carnival rides colllided while operating. 

A child happened to be standing near the rides when they collided, and according to witnesses was struck by debris from the ride. 

"The piece fell off and hit the kid. It hit others as well," one witness told NBC 5. "It was lying on top of him and his head was full of blood." 

Witnesses say that a nurse practitioner stepped in to help. 

"I just grabbed my first aid kit," Michelle Buiktma said. 

He was taken to an area hospital, where his condition is unknown at this time.
