A 3-year-old boy died at the hospital Monday night, the third person killed in a horrific four-car crash following a police chase on Chicago's South Side, officials said.
The crash took place at around 7:07 p.m. in the city's Englewood neighborhood, according to Chicago police, who said officers saw a sedan speeding and driving erratically eastbound on West 69th Street near South Loomis Boulevard.
The officers pursued the vehicle, but stopped following it prior to the crash, police said. The car continued eastbound on 69th Street before running a red light, according to police, striking another car going north on Loomis Boulevard.
The impact then caused the northbound vehicle to crash into two cars that were headed west but stopped at the intersection, waiting for the light to change, authorities said.
Two men in their 20s were taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to police.
The Cook County Medical Examiner identified them as 24-year-old Antonio Cowan, of the 7800 block of South Ada Street in Chicago, and 25-year-old Chrishawn Turner, of the 8100 block of South Vernon Avenue in Chicago.
A 3-year-old boy was taken to Comer Children's Hospital where he later died, officials said. Authorities identified him as Cabari Turner, of the 500 block of South Vermillion Place in Gary, Indiana.
A 2-year-old girl and a 26-year-old woman were both taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition for observation and soreness, respectively, officials said.
A 43-year-old woman was taken to St. Bernard Hospital where she was listed in stable condition with neck and back pain, according to police.
Following the crash, the driver of the first car ran from the scene on foot, police and fire officials said, adding that a weapon - a handgun and two shell casings - was recovered from the vehicle in question.
No one is in custody in connection with the incident, officials said, and the investigation remained ongoing.
