Seven more Chicago public schools will be served by Safe Passage routes this school year, making the program available to roughly 2,500 more students.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says the new routes will start Tuesday with the beginning of the school year.
Workers are stationed on the routes, which are meant to provide students safe travel to and from school.
The new routes bring the total number of schools served to 140. The program was started in 2009, and routes are now provided to more than 75,000 students.
