Chicago's First Poutine Shop Hits River North

BadHappy Poutine Shop opens Thursday

At first glance, poutine doesn't sound overly appetizing.

The French Canadian delicacy is a dish of french fries and fresh cheese curds, covered with brown gravy or sauce.

Finding it in Chicago can be a hit or miss proposition, until Thursday, the grand opening of BadHappy Poutine Shop.

The BYOB "poutinerie" at 939 N. Orleans Street offers a number of variations on the classic dish, including gourmet takes with ingredients such as braised veal cheeks, foie gras, sweetbreads, pork belly, house made sausage and headcheese, along with vegetarian/vegan versions.

If poutine isn't your thing, the eatery also serves burgers, house-made pâtés on toast called "smooshs," BigBadSalads, BadBurritos, and HappyShakes.

The restaurant is open lunch through late night Tuesday through Saturday, and also hosts a southern style BYOV (Bring Your Own Vodka) Brunch on Sundays.

Tres bien!
