Chicago's Aja Evans Grabs Bronze in Women's Bobsled

Evans and Jamie Greubel finished third with a time of 3:51.61

Canada rallied on Wednesday to win its second straight Olympic women's bobsledding gold medal, but the U.S. -- and Chicago -- didn't go away empty handed.

Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams of the United States finished second with a time of 3:50.71 to win a silver medal. They were edged out of gold by 0.10 seconds from Canada's Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse.

The bronze medal went to Chicago's Aja Evans and Jamie Greubel with a finishing time of 3:51.61. It's the first time two U.S. sleds have medaled in women's bobsledding.

Going into Wednesday's event Meyers and Williams sat in the lead, with Evans and Greubel in third.

Evans started her career as a track star, but the shift to bobsledding began in 2012. After training at Highland Park's EFT Sports Performance and earning a high score at the 2012 Team Official Combine, Evans hopped on the fast track to success.

Another big influence in Evans' athletic career is her brother and Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle, Fred Evans. She does all of her off-season training with Fred and other NFL stars such as Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte.

Evans said training with them is crucial to her development because they push her like no one else would.

"They go in there and grind it out, but it's still an enjoyable environment," she said. "There's no excuses when you train with them."
