Chicago's 2018 Christmas Tree to Light Up Friday

The big event, which will feature performances by "Hamilton" star Miguel Cervantes and Disney Channel star Cozi Zuehlsdorf, will also mark the opening of the ice rink in the park

NBC 5 will stream the lighting of the tree live at 6:30 p.m.

Chicago is turning the holiday season bright Friday.

The city will light its 2018 Christmas tree in Millennium Park beginning around 6:30 p.m.

The big event, which will feature performances by "Hamilton" star Miguel Cervantes and Disney Channel star Cozi Zuehlsdorf, will also mark the opening of the ice rink in the park.

Carolers, Santa Claus and a fireworks display will also be a part of the celebration.

The 60-foot Norway Spruce set to light up Friday is from Elmhurst and is Chicago's 105th tree.

Donated by Deborah Orth and her family, the tree has been in Chicago for the last two weeks as preparations for the lighting event began.

The Orth family will join Santa Claus and other guests at the annual ceremony, where they will personally light the tree.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and is free to the public.

Nearby, in Daley Plaza, the popular Christkindlmarket also opens to the public.
