Chicago Zoo Welcomes First-Ever Red Panda Cubs

Two vulnerable red panda cubs born at Lincoln Park Zoo

Lincoln Park Zoo welcomes the first-ever red panda cubs to the Kovler Lion House.

The cubs were born on June 26 to parents Leafa and Phoenix. The cubs continue to grow and will remain unnamed and unsexed until they become old enough to survive on their own.

The vulnerable cubs will spend the next several months in their den with their mother as they grow in size and gain strength.

Keepers and vets at Lincoln Park Zoo will monitor the cubs through a camera system until the cubs leave the den.

Leafa and the newly-born cubs will remain off-exhibit for several months until the cubs leave to den to join their father, Pheonix, at the Kovler Lion House.
