Chicago Wolves to Face Grand Rapids Griffins in Calder Cup Playoffs

The Chicago Wolves will be vying for a Calder Cup championship this season, as the Central Division champions will open postseason play against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The Wolves, who have now won three straight division championships, will host the best-of-five series when it opens on April 19 at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. They will also host Game 2 on April 20, and if necessary, a winner-take-all Game 5 would be played at the arena on Sunday, April 28.

The Wolves finished the regular season with the most points in the Western Conference and won their division with ease, outpacing the Milwaukee Admirals by 10 points in the standings. They did so by having one of the league’s very best offenses, scoring 250 goals this season. That put them in first place in the West in that category and fourth overall in the league.

Their scoring attack was led by the two-headed monster of Daniel Carr and T.J. Tynan, who finished tied for third in the league with 31 points. Carr far outpaced his teammate in goals with 30, but Tynan racked up a league-high 59 assists as the Wolves proved to be a formidable foe for their AHL rivals.

The Wolves also got some of the best goaltending in the league, allowing fewer than 200 goals thanks in large part to Max Lagace, who racked up a 2.43 GAA and had a 16-10-6 record in 33 starts this season. Oscar Dansk also had a tremendous season, playing in 40 games and posting a 2.46 goals against average and a .913 save percentage.
