Several inches of snow expected Saturday

Chicagoland woke up to blanket of white Saturday morning, making road and air travel especially tricky.

Two fatal crashes and several minor accidents were attributed to the slick conditions, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

More than 300 flights were canceled and several more delayed at O'Hare airport Saturday which received more than 3 inches of snow, according to the Sun-Times.

A Winter Weather Adisory is in effect through midnight.

Northwest Indiana is receiving the brunt of this Alberta Clipper, which moves northwest to southeast, and could receive anywhere from 6-8 inches of lake effect snow Saturday.

The city’s Department of Streets & Sanitation deployed around 175 salt trucks and plows Saturday and began working secondary streets by the afternoon.

Chicago recorded 54.2 inches of snow last winter, marking the third consecutive winter the city received more than 50 inches of snow. It's only the second time in history that the city received that much snow over three straight winters, a release from the city Dept. of Streets & Sanitation said.
