The Chicago White Sox wrapped up their 2019 season in style on Sunday, beating the Detroit Tigers 5-3 at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Tim Anderson was removed from the game in the fifth inning, securing his victory in the American League batting title chase. He ends the season at .335, becoming the first White Sox player to win the batting title since Frank Thomas achieved the feat in 1994.

Jose Abreu also took home some honors, finishing the year as the American League leader in RBI’s with 123.

The White Sox erased two different deficits in the contest, taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. Yoan Moncada tied things up at 2-2 with an RBI groundout in the frame, and Eloy Jimenez gave the team the lead with an RBI double to left field. Welington Castillo then blasted a home run over the right field wall, putting the White Sox in front by a 5-2 margin.

From there the White Sox bullpen was able to hold off the Tigers’ offense, with a solo home run off of Kelvin Herrera serving as the only blemish in the late stages of the contest.

The White Sox finish the season with a 72-89 record, a 10-win improvement over last season.
