Eloy Jimenez Will Not be Called Up By White Sox This Season

Jimenez's agents threatened to file a grievance in the case last week

Chicago White Sox GM Rick Hahn made it official on Monday, saying that the team will not call up prized prospect Eloy Jimenez this season.

The decision, first reported by USA Today's Bob Nightengale, will let Jimenez finish out the season with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

Jimenez has had a monster season in the minor leagues, hitting 22 home runs and 75 RBI in 105 games. He also has a .341 batting average and a staggering .973 OPS in those contests.

After the decision not to call up Jimenez now, the White Sox likely won't call him up to start the 2019 season either, going on a similar path to the one the Chicago Cubs took with Kris Bryant in 2015.

That season, the Cubs waited nearly two weeks before calling him up, ensuring that they would get a seventh year of team control before he could become a free agent.
