White Sox Offense Sputters Again as Twins Finish Sweep

The White Sox scored five runs in a three-game sweep at the hands of the Twins

A lost weekend for the Chicago White Sox wrapped up Sunday with a 7-0 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Twins.

The White Sox scored a total of five runs in the three-game sweep at Target Field, and were limited to just five hits in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. Jake Odorizzi picked up his seventh win of the season, allowing just one hit in 5.1 innings of work for the victorious Twins.

Dylan Covey was touched up for four runs in six innings, and despite only giving up three hits and striking out six batters, he was stuck with the loss as the White Sox offense sputtered for the second day in a row.

Charlie Tilson collected a pair of hits for the White Sox, but his effort was the lone bright spot of the day for the offense. José Abreu struck out three times a day after registering the only White Sox run of the day on Saturday, and Seby Zavala went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the contest.

The Twins’ offense primarily came from two players, as Max Kepler blasted his 12th home run of the season and drove in four RBI, and Eddie Rosario hit his 16th home run of the campaign and drove in three RBI to pace the Minnesota effort.

Kepler also had an RBI double in the third inning, which got the Twins on the board and pushed Byron Buxton across the plate. Rosario then blasted a three-run home run to right field in the same inning to make it a 4-0 game.

In the seventh inning, Josh Osich served up a home run pitch to Kepler, who hammered the baseball 429 feet to center field to stretch the Minnesota lead to 7-0.

The White Sox will now head home for a Memorial Day matinee against the Kansas City Royals at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m., and Iván Nova will get the ball for the White Sox in the opening game of a seven-game homestand.
