Reynaldo López Lit Up as White Sox Fall to Tigers

López gave up six earned runs and took the loss for the White Sox

Eloy Jiménez hit his 15th home run of the season and Jose Rondón smacked his third of the year, but it wasn't enough as the Chicago White Sox fell 11-5 to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday afternoon.

Reynaldo López gave up seven runs and scattered nine hits for the White Sox, taking his eighth loss of the season. For the Tigers, Matthew Boyd had an interesting day, giving up four runs in 5.1 innings but also struck out 13 White Sox hitters as he got the win.

Jiménez drove in three runs in the game, and James McCann scored twice in the losing effort.

Miguel Cabrera, Niko Goodrum, and Jeimer Candelario all went deep for the Tigers as they salvaged the final game of their series on the South Side.

It took a while for the Tigers' bats to get started, but they finally broke through in the fourth as Nick Castellanos singled to left field and gave them the lead. The White Sox took the lead right back in the fourth as Róndon homered to right field, but from there it was all Tigers. They scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and then added four more in the sixth as they chased López from the game and jumped out to an 8-2 lead.

From there, both clubs exchanged home runs, as Jiménez homered in the sixth and Cabrera homered for the Tigers in the seventh, and while the Sox got within four runs late in the contest, the Tigers stayed one step ahead of them, as Castellanos had an RBI ground rule double in the eighth and Candelario homered in the ninth to send the Tigers to a victory.

The White Sox will now enjoy a rare Friday off before starting a two-game series against the Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday.
