The Chicago White Sox will have a new catcher on their roster next season, as they signed Welington Castillo to a two-year contract.

According to financial terms released by the team, Castillo will be paid $7.25 million each of the next season seasons, with an $8 million team option for the 2020 campaign.

Castillo, who played with the Baltimore Orioles last season, hit 20 home runs and drove in 53 RBI last season. He has also made stops in Chicago with the Cubs and with the Arizona Diamondbacks before signing with the White Sox Friday.

“Adding Welington benefits us both in the short and long term,” White Sox G.M. Rick Hahn said in a statement. “He has been one of the more productive catchers over the last several seasons, and we believe his presence will have a lasting positive effect on our younger pitchers and catchers as they continue their development at the major league level.”

Castillo’s totals from last season eclipse what the White Sox got from their catcher position in all 162 games, as their four catchers combined for just 10 home runs and 51 RBI a season ago.
