The Chicago White Sox staged a late rally, scoring three runs in the top of the eighth inning, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Detroit Tigers in their series finale on Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park.
Leury García and Tim Anderson both had RBI singles in the eighth inning, and Yolmer Sánchez scored on a wild pitch, but it wasn’t enough as the White Sox lost their second game in three contests against the Tigers.
Reynaldo López had a solid game on the mound, striking out eight batters and scattering seven hits over six innings of work, but he was still tagged with the loss as he was outduelled by Daniel Norris and the Tigers.
The Tigers got on the board first in the second inning as Brandon Dixon hit an RBI infield single to score Jeimer Candelario and give his team the early lead. Miguel Cabrera, a long-time Sox killer, extended that lead in the fourth, as he laced a single to left field, scoring Nick Castellanos to make it a 2-0 game.
The Tigers kept adding adding on in the later stages of the game, with Niko Goodrum doubling to center field to score Castellanos and former White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham blasting a home run to left field to put the Tigers ahead by four runs.
In the eighth inning, the White Sox finally broke through, touching up reliever Blaine Hardy for three runs. García hit an RBI single to right field to get the scoring going, and then Sánchez scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-2 game. Anderson then hit an RBI infield single to keep the rally going, but Victor Alcantara finally managed to get an out to end the inning and keep the Tigers in front.
Shane Greene then finished the game off for the Tigers, securing the victory with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

The White Sox will continue their road trip on Monday night when they take on the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m., and Manny Bañuelos will take the ball for the South Siders.
