1 Dead, at Least 4 Wounded in Friday Shootings

One person is dead and at least four others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago on Friday.

The city’s first fatal shooting occurred just before 3:30 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Calumet, police said. A 34-year-old man was sitting inside of a vehicle when another sedan pulled up and an occupant opened fire, striking the victim in the head.

Police say the man was later pronounced dead at University of Chicago Medical Center. Another victim, a 42-year-old man, was standing outside of the vehicle and was struck in the stomach. He was taken to University of Chicago in serious condition.

Just before 4 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Thomas, two other victims were shot. The victims were sitting when a person approached on foot and opened fire.

A 29-year-old woman was shot in the head, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, and the other victim, a 40-year-old man, was shot when he tried to grab the gunman. The second victim was taken to Mount Sinai, where he is listed in stable condition.

There are no suspects in custody in either shooting, according to police.

  • A man suffered a graze wound when he was shot in the 7800 block of South Escanaba at approximately 8:15 p.m., police said. The victim was treated on scene by EMS, and other circumstances in the shooting are unknown.
