2 Dead, at Least 27 Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago

Two people are dead and at least 27 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred at approximately 2:42 a.m. Saturday morning in the 3000 block of South Trumbull, according to police. Two men were in an alley when a dark colored vehicle pulled up and a person inside opened fire, striking both victims.

A 42-year-old man was shot in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai, where he was later pronounced dead. A 49-year-old man was also shot, and he was listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai with a shoulder injury.

No one is in custody in connection with the shooting.

On Saturday afternoon in the 5500 block of South Perry, another man was shot to death inside of an apartment, police said.

The 40-year-old man was in the apartment when he was shot in the chest and leg by an unknown gunman, according to police. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

No one is in custody, and police are continuing to investigate the shooting.

In another Saturday shooting, a total of three people were shot in a parking lot in the 9400 block of South Wentworth at approximately 2:22 a.m., police said.

The victims say they were standing in that parking lot when four men got out of an SUV and opened fire, striking all three victims, and then fled the scene.

A 32-year-old man was shot several times and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. A 32-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man were also shot, and both are in stable condition at area hospitals.

An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Later Saturday morning, a total of four people were shot in the 3500 block of West North Avenue, according to police. At 4:20 a.m., the victims were involved in a verbal altercation with a person at a bar, and when the altercation became physical, the gunman pulled out a gun and fired shots toward the victims’ Jeep.

A 30-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot in the arm, leg, and chest. A 45-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder and is also listed in serious condition at a local hospital.

A 43-year-old man was shot in the back and is in stable condition at Stroger, and a 24-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his hand and refused medical treatment.

There have been no arrests made, and police are continuing to investigate.

On Saturday afternoon in the 100 block of West 111th Place, a 12-year-old boy was shot in the back and hip and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. 

Here are the rest of the weekend’s shootings:

Friday:

• A 43-year-old man was standing in the 600 block of East 46^th Street at approximately 2:45 p.m. when people in two different vehicles began shooting at each other, according to police. The man was caught in the crossfire and struck in the buttocks by a gunshot, and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition.
• A total of three people were shot in the 6200 block of South Justine at approximately 2:16 p.m., according to police. Authorities say that a 22-year-old man was standing outside a car when he was struck by gunfire, suffering a wound to his left hip. A person inside the car, a 28-year-old, got out and opened fire, striking a 25-year-old and a 20-year-old. The 25-year-old was in stable condition with gunshot wounds to his buttocks, arms, and head, and the 20-year-old is in critical condition after being shot multiple times. Charges are pending in the case, and detectives are questioning a person of interest.
• At approximately 7:18 p.m., an 18-year-old man was seated in a car in the 2500 block of East 83^rd Street when he heard shots. He was taken to the University of Chicago in stable condition with a graze wound to his head, according to police.
• In the 200 block of West North at approximately 7:35 p.m., an 18-year-old was in a vehicle heading eastbound when he heard shots, police said. The man was shot in the torso and suffered graze wounds to his shoulder and elbow, and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition. Two persons of interest are being questioned in the shooting, according to police.
• A 25-year-old man was walking in the 2300 block of South Rockwell just before 11:30 p.m. when a person inside a black sedan fired shots at him, striking him in the leg. The man was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, police said.
• Just before midnight in the 3700 block of West Flournoy, a 26-year-old man was walking when a person in a silver SUV fired shots, striking him in the leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition, according to police.

Saturday:

• In the 2200 block of West Monroe at approximately 12:52 a.m., a 19-year-old man was walking on a sidewalk when a person in a vehicle fired shots, striking him in the stomach. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
• Two men were shot in the 6300 block of West Palmer at approximately 1:21 a.m., police said. The victims reported that they were walking when they heard shots. A 23-year-old man was shot in the hand, ankle, and buttocks, and a 25-year-old man was shot in the right ankle. Both were taken to local hospitals in stable condition.
• Just before 1:30 a.m., a 27-year-old woman was walking in the 600 block of West Surf when a man on a bicycle passed her and then fired shots at her, striking her in the right side of her chest. She was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in stable condition, police said.
• In the 5900 block of South Hermitage at approximately 2:42 a.m., a 26-year-old woman was sitting on a porch when she was struck in both legs by gunshots, police said. The woman was taken to Holy Cross, but was later transferred to Mount Sinai, where she is listed in critical condition.
• A 25-year-old man was involved in an altercation on a party bus when he was shot in the 5800 block of South Wells at approximately 2:45 a.m., police said. The man got into an altercation with another partygoer, and when they got off the bus the man was shot in the right foot. He was taken to the University of Chicago in stable condition, but refused to cooperate with police.
• Just before 3:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of West Monroe, a 36-year-old man was walking on a sidewalk when a person in a silver vehicle opened fire, striking him in the arm and shoulder, according to police. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, and no one is in custody.
• In the 1700 block of South Union at approximately 5 a.m., two people were shot while they were traveling in a Dodge Charger near the 18^th Street exit on the interstate highway, police said. A 28-year-old man was shot in the arm and chest, and he’s in serious condition at Stroger. A 28-year-old woman was shot in the arm and is in stable condition at Stroger.
• A 25-year-old man was getting out of a car in front of his residence in the 3500 block of South Mozart when an SUV pulled up alongside him and a man inside opened fire, striking him in the left arm and the lower back. He was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, police said.
