3 Dead, At Least 30 Injured in Shootings Since Friday Evening

Among those wounded was a 7-year-old, who was shot while inside a car in the South Shore neighborhood

Three people were killed and at least 30 others were injured in shootings since Friday evening.

The weekend's first fatal shooting happened at about 4:10 a.m. Saturday in the 2900 block of West Lexington in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

Two men, ages 28 and 34, were sitting in a parked car when someone pulled up in another vehicle and fired shots, police said.

The 34-year-old man was struck in the chest and shoulder and pronounced dead on the scene, according to police. The other man was struck in the neck, chest and shoulder and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

No one is in custody for the shooting, and Area North detectives are investigating.

A police source said the 34-year-old victim was a documented gang member.

In another fatal incident, a 44-year-old man was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood Saturday night.

The man was standing on a sidewalk in the 6000 block of South Throop at about 11:05 p.m. when someone exited a black car and fired shots at him, police said.

The victim, who was struck in the head and back, was found on the sidewalk and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead, police said.

No one is in custody for the shooting, and Area South detectives are investigating.

In the most recent fatal shooting, one teenager was killed and another wounded in a shooting in the South Side Chatham neighborhood early Sunday morning.

The teens, ages 16 and 17, were standing on the sidewalk in the 8200 block of South Ingleside at about 1 a.m. when someone approached on foot and fired shots at them, police said.

The 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The 17-year-old was shot in the leg and was also taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A police source said both victims have gang affiliations.

In a non-fatal incident, a 7-year-old girl was among two victims of a shooting in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood.

The girl and a 32-year-old man were inside a car in the 4600 block of South Ellis when someone approached on foot and fired shots into the car, police said. The man was struck in the back, and the girl was struck in the arm.

The man then drove himself and the girl to the University of Chicago Medical Center, police said. The man was expected to be treated and released the same day, and the girl was listed in stable condition at Comer Children's Hospital.

No one is in custody for the shooting, and Area Central detectives are investigating the incident.

A police source said the male victim is a documented gang member and a convicted felon.

Several others were injured in shootings this weekend:

  • A 23-year-old man was shot in the ankle at about 11:45 p.m. Friday in the 3200 block of West Pierce in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
  • Two men, ages 23 and 25, were shot at about 1:05 a.m. Saturday in the 7300 block of South Kingston in the South Shore neighborhood. The 23-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his face and body, and the 25-year-old was shot in the face.
  • A 20-year-old man was shot in the foot at about 1:50 a.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of West Monroe in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.
  • A 27-year-old man was shot in the shoulder at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday in the 12100 block of South Front in the West Pullman neighborhood.
  • A 26-year-old woman was shot in the arm at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of 111th Street in the Morgan Park neighborhood.
  • A 22-year-old man was shot in the back at about 1 a.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of South Damen in the Pilsen neighborhood.
  • A 37-year-old man was shot in the groin at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the 4400 block of West Lexington in the Lawndale neighborhood.
  • An 18-year-old man was shot in the calf at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of 111th Street and Aberdeen on the Far South Side.
  • A 26-year-old man was shot in the back at about 6 p.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of South Shields in the Englewood neighborhood.
  • A 24-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were shot at about 2:05 a.m. Sunday in the 1800 block of West 59th Street in the West Englewood neighborhood. The man was shot in the foot, and the woman was struck in the back.
  • A 19-year-old man was shot in the hand at about 3:40 a.m. Sunday in the 2800 block of West Augusta in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
  • Two men, ages 28 and 30, were shot at about 4:05 a.m. Sunday in the 3300 block of West Walnut in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The 28-year-old was shot in the head, and the 30-year-old was struck in the thigh.
  • A 52-year-old man was shot in the ear at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday in the 9100 block of South Anthony in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.
  • A 19-year-old man was shot in the foot at about 4:11 p.m. Sunday in the 7900 block of South Escanaba in the South Chicago neighborhood.
  • Around 8 p.m., two people were shot in the 1200 block of West Touhy Avenue. Police said a 19-year-old man was shot in the right arm and abdomen and was taken to Saint Francis Medical Center for treatment. A 21-year-old man was also shot in the right leg and taken in serious condition to Illinois Masonic Medical Center. The 21-year-old man told police the pair heard shots and felt pain.
  • Around 8:45 p.m., a 27-year-old man was shot in the 200 block of West 94th Street. Police said the man told was driving down the street when a dark-colored SUV pulled up and someone inside fired shots. The man drove himself to Little Company of Mary Hospital for treatment, but was involved in a traffic crash at 95th Street and Western Avenue on the way. He was listed in good condition, police said.
  • Three people were shot around 11:45 p.m. in the 8300 block of South Maryland Avenue. Police said the three were standing on a sidewalk when they heard shots and felt pain. A 22-year-old man was shot in the upper back and neck and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in stable condition. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the right calf and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition and another 17-year-old boy was shot in the left thigh and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, a 28-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery in the 10700 block of South Wentworth Avenue. Police said the man was approached by two men who tried to rob him at gunpoint and one of the men shot him in the right shin before fleeing. The victim was taken to Roseland Hospital in stable condition.
