4 Dead, 56 Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago

Four people are dead and at least 56 others have been wounded in a violent start to the weekend across the city of Chicago.

The city’s first fatal shooting occurred Friday evening in the 3200 block of West Walnut, according to police. 52-year-old Henry Daniels was shot in the leg, abdomen, and back, and was transported to Norwegian Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have no suspects in the case, and are continuing to investigate the circumstances around the shooting.

Early Saturday morning at approximately 5:33 a.m., residents in the 3200 block of West Huron heard gunfire, and when they stepped outside they saw a 26-year-old man lying in a gangway, according to police.

The man was shot three times, and was pronounced dead by police. A gun was found near the victim’s body, but no suspect is in custody at this time.

On Saturday afternoon, officers were called to the 7600 block of South Aberdeen, where they discovered a 32-year-old man lying in the street.

The man, who had been shot in the head and in the back, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Area South Detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Late Saturday night, an 18-year-old man became involved in a verbal altercation in an alley in the 6000 block of South Komensky when he was shot multiple times, witnesses told Chicago police. 

The man was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. An investigation is ongoing. 

Here are the rest of the weekend’s shootings thus far:

Friday –

• Two victims were walking in the 8700 block of South Michigan Avenue just before 2 p.m. when a person emerged from an alley and fired shots, striking both victims. A 22-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot in the arm, leg, and lower body, and a 15-year-old girl was taken to Comers Children’s Hospital in stable condition after being shot in the leg and abdomen, according to police.
• In the 5200 block of West Gladys at approximately 4:17 p.m., a 22-year-old man was walking on a sidewalk when two men got out of a car and fired shots at him, police said. The man was struck in the buttocks, arm, and leg, and was taken to Loretto Hospital in serious condition.
• At approximately 4:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Union, a 19-year-old woman was in front of a residence when a man began firing shots at her, striking her in the left thigh, according to police. She was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in stable condition.
• A 36-year-old man was driving at approximately 7 p.m. in the 9800 block of South Michigan Avenue when a person inside of a passing white SUV fired shots at him, grazing his head. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago in stable condition, according to police.
• In the 1000 block of East 93^rd Street at approximately 9:30 p.m, two men were walking back to a car when a person inside a black Dodge Charger fired shots at them, striking both victims. A 38-year-old man was shot in the chest and legs, and was taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition, police said. A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg, and he’s in stable condition at the same hospital.

Saturday –

• At approximately 12:23 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Keeler, two teens were walking when a person in a passing vehicle fired shots at them. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest and multiple times in his upper torso, and is in critical condition at Mount Sinai, police said. A 17-year-old girl was shot in the arm, and she’s in stable condition at Mount Sinai.
• A 29-year-old woman was shot during an argument with an ex-boyfriend at a residence in the 400 block of West Briar Place, police said. The woman suffered a graze wound to her back, and is in stable condition at Illinois Masonic. Her boyfriend was placed into custody at the scene.
• In the 10500 block of South Wentworth at approximately 1:55 a.m., a 23-year-old man was riding in a car when a person inside a passing white Jeep fired shots, striking him in the leg. He was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he is listed in good condition, police said.
• At approximately 2:38 a.m. in the 1300 block of West 13^th Street, a 53-year-old man was walking when he was shot multiple times, police said. The man was shot in the shoulder, back, side, and had a graze wound to his head, and he was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
• A 15-year-old boy was walking in the 300 block of West 79^th Street at approximately 2:55 a.m. when two men walked up to him and one opened fire, striking him in the hand. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in good condition, police said.
• In the 4600 block of West Monroe at approximately 3:05 a.m., a 28-year-old man was standing outside in a large group of people when a person opened fire, striking him in the hand. The bullet went through his hand and leg, and the man was taken to Stroger in stable condition, police said.
• At approximately 2:32 a.m. in the 2400 block of West Jackson, a total of five people were shot while standing on a street when shots were fired. Four of the victims, a 22-year-old woman, a 28-year-old man, a 54-year-old man, and a 28-year-old man, were listed in stable condition at area hospitals, while a 49-year-old woman, who was shot in the chin, is listed in serious condition, police said.
• A 34-year-old man was involved in an argument in the 7500 block of South Lafayette at approximately 4:21 a.m. when the other person opened fire, striking him twice in the upper body. The man was taken to the University of Chicago in critical condition, police said.
• In the 2200 block of South Pulaski, a 24-year-old man got into a verbal altercation with two unknown men in the parking lot outside an establishment, and one of the men pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking him in the back, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition, and the offenders fled the scene in a purple Chevy Trailblazer.
• At approximately 5:13 a.m. in the 4400 block of West Wilcox, a 30-year-old man was shot in the foot, according to police. He was taken to Rush Hospital for treatment, and his condition is unknown. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
• A 38-year-old man was walking in the 7000 block of South Throop Street at approximately 6:10 a.m. when a person fired a shot at him, striking him in the leg, police said. The man was taken to the University of Chicago, and was listed in stable condition.
• In the 12200 block of South Emerald at approximately 9:40 a.m., police were called to a ShotSpotter alert, and discovered a 34-year-old man lying in the street. The man had suffered gunshot wounds to his lower back and his left side, but was conscious and talked to police. He was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition.
• At approximately 2:40 p.m. in the 0-100 block of East 87^th Street, a 21-year-old man was in a parking lot when a vehicle approached, and a person inside opened fire, striking him in the abdomen. The man was taken to the University of Chicago, where he is listed in critical condition, according to police.
• A 20-year-old man was on a sidewalk in the 13200 block of South Langley at approximately 4:49 p.m. when a person fired shots at him, striking him in the thigh. He was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he's listed in stable condition, police said. 
• In the 5100 block of South Calumet at approximately 8:29 p.m., a 26-year-old man was standing near a vacant lot when a person in a passing vehicle fired shots, striking him in the upper leg. According to police, the man was taken to the University of Chicago in good condition. 
• At approximately 8:40 p.m., a 19-year-old man felt a sharp pain in his calf while standing in the 900 block of East 132nd Street and realized he'd been shot, police said. The man was taken to Roseland Hospital, where he is in stable condition. 
• A 45-year-old woman was shot in the 12200 block of South May at approximately 9 p.m., police said. The woman said she was in the back yard at a party when a red vehicle drove by and someone fired shots, grazing her face. The woman refused medical attention. 
• In the 9900 block of South LaSalle at approximately 11 p.m., a 43-year-old man was in a car when two men got into the car, pulled out weapons, and demanded money, police said. The man told them he didn't have any cash, and one of the gunmen shot him in the chest, wrist, and finger. The man was taken to Roseland Hospital in serious condition.
