3 Dead, at Least 13 Wounded in Saturday Shootings Across Chicago

Three people are dead and at least 13 others were wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago on Saturday.

The city’s first fatal shooting occurred just after midnight, according to Illinois State Police. Authorities were called to the inbound lanes of the Dan Ryan at 25th Street, where they found a 25-year-old man in a vehicle on the shoulder of the highway.

The man had a gunshot wound to his head, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one was arrested, and police are still investigating.

Another fatal shooting occurred in the 7100 block of West Grand Avenue at approximately 4:14 a.m., police said. Police reported to the scene and found a 26-year-old man lying on the sidewalk.

The man had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, and was pronounced dead at Community First Hospital.

No one is in custody, and police are still investigating.

Just before midnight, officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 300 block of South Washtenaw and discovered a man lying on the street with gunshot wounds to his head and leg. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are still investigating the shooting. 

A 35-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in the 5900 block of South Damen Avenue, police said. The man was at the location at approximately 5:15 a.m. when a person in a white Jeep opened fire, striking him in the shoulder.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. No one is in custody.

Here are the rest of Saturday’s shootings:

  • A 25-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 800 block of West 50th Place at approximately 1:20 a.m. when he heard gunshots, police said. The man was shot in the right leg, and was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition.
  • In the 200 block of West Garfield at approximately 1:56 a.m., a 34-year-old man was shot while crossing the street as an occupant of a passing vehicle opened fire. The man was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his right shoulder.
  • A 23-year-old man was standing in an alley in the 8700 block of South Langley when a man fired shots at him, striking him in the right leg, police said. The man was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition.
  • Just before 5 a.m., a 22-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his left leg when he was shot in the 1200 block of South Homan Avenue, police said. The man was taken to St. Mary Hospital in good condition.
  • Two teens were shot in the 4900 block of West Cortez just before noon, police said. A person approached the victims on foot, striking both victims in the buttocks. An 18-year-old and a 13-year-old were taken to Cook County Hospital in good condition, police said.
  • A 25-year-old man was standing in the 7100 block of South Hermitage at approximately 1:30 p.m. when a man got out of a black vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the chest. The victim was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition.
  • In the 6800 block of South King Drive, a 19-year-old man was shot in the torso just before 6:30 p.m., police said. The man was found by police after they responded to a call of shots fired. He was taken to University of Chicago in serious condition with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and back.  
  • Just before 9 p.m., a 26-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 11100 block of South Union when a man walked up to him and opened fire, striking him in the left leg and groin, police said. The man was taken to an area hospital in stable condition. 
  • An 18-year-old man was driving in a silver SUV when it crashed into a sidewalk in the 7000 block of South Jeffery at approximately 9:38 p.m., police said. The man was found walking a short distance away with a gunshot wound to his wrist. He was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition. 
  • At approximately 9:36 p.m., an 18-year-old man was discovered on a sidewalk in the 6700 block of South East End with gunshot wounds to his back and shoulder. He was taken to University of Chicago in good condition. 
  • Just after 11 p.m., a 35-year-old man was sitting in the driver's seat of a parked car in the 1500 block of East 61st Street when a man walked up to him and opened fire, striking him in the right arm. He was taken to University of Chicago in stable condition.
