3 Killed, 5 Including 9-Year-Old Boy Injured in Chicago Weekend Shootings

A 30-year-old man died in Chicago's first fatal shooting of the weekend

At least three people have been killed, and five others including a 9-year-old boy have been wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend, police said.

In the city’s first deadly shooting of the weekend, a 30-year-old man was shot and killed at approximately 12:59 a.m. Saturday in the 3000 block of West 64th Street, according to police.

An unknown offender reportedly approached the victim, fired several shots then fled southbound on Whipple. No one was in custody as of Saturday evening.

At approximately 2:17 a.m. on Saturday in the 5900 block of South Aberdeen, officers found a 32-year-old male gunshot victim on the sidewalk after responding to a ShotSpotter alert, police said. The man sustained a gunshot wound to the head, and was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. What led up to the shooting wasn’t known as of Saturday evening.

In a separate incident, a 49-year-old woman was shot and killed at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 6200 block of North Ridge in the city's West Rogers Park neighborhood, police said.

The female victim, and a 28-year-old man, were inside an apartment when a known offender shot them, according to police. The male victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Friday -

  • A 9-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the elbow at approximately 11:27 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Paulina, Chicago police confirmed. The boy was riding inside a vehicle with two men when an unknown suspect fired shots. The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Saturday -
  • At approximately 1:53 a.m. in the 6100 block of South Hermitage, a 40-year-old man was shot in the torso during a robbery, police said. The victim told police that several men approached him, announced a robbery and took his wallet. The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition. The suspects possibly fled in a gray four-door vehicle, police said.
  • In the 1100 block of South Richmond at approximately 4:01 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the leg, police said. The victim said a man approached him, fired shots and then left the scene. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 23-year-old man was shot at approximately 5 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Madison, according to police. The victim was inside a vehicle when an unknown vehicle approached him, and someone inside fired shots. The victim went to Stroger Hospital where he was reported to be in good condition.
