3 Dead, at Least 18 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

Three people are dead and at least 18 others have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

The city’s first deadly shooting of the weekend occurred on Friday evening in the 3600 block of West Division, according to police. Officers witnessed a man firing shots at another man in a parking lot in the 3600 block of West Division, and when they attempted to apprehend the shooter, they fired shots at him, police said in a statement.

The gunman ultimately escaped from the scene, leaving behind a firearm, and first responders transported a 33-year-old man to a local hospital. That man, whom police say was shot by the gunman, was later pronounced dead.

An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

On Sunday, two fatal shootings occurred within two hours of one another. In the 3800 block of South Princeton, a 15-year-old boy was standing in the courtyard of a building just before 3 a.m. when shots rang out. 

The boy was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his torso, and he was later pronounced dead, according to police. 

No further information into the circumstances of the shooting was made available. 

Just before 5 a.m., police discovered an 18-year-old man lying in an alley in the 1200 block of South Komensky. Officers saw that the victim had a gunshot wound to his head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. 

On Sunday evening, two men were injured in a drive-by shooting in the 6400 block of South Lowe. Police say that just before 6 p.m., the men were standing on the sidewalk when a person in a black sedan fired shots at them, striking both. 

A 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were both taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where they were listed in serious condition with gunshot wounds to their lower backs.

Friday

• In the 5400 block of South Wabash just before 3 p.m., a 23-year-old woman was sitting in her car at a gas station when two men approached her and opened fire, striking her in the head. The woman was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in stable condition with a graze wound, according to police.
• A 38-year-old man is in good condition after he was shot in the 400 block of West 72^nd Street at approximately 9:08 p.m., according to police. The man was walking northbound on Stewart when a person in a car began shooting at him. He was hit in the right leg and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center.
• At approximately 9:20 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Spaulding, a 30-year-old man was on the front porch of a residence when a silver vehicle pulled up and a person inside opened fire, striking him in the left leg. Police say the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

Saturday

• In the 2600 block of West Madison at approximately 12:15 a.m., a 21-year-old man was exiting a vehicle when a person opened fire, striking him in the left hip. He was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, but provided no further information to police, according to authorities.
• A 26-year-old man is in stable condition after he was shot in the butt while sitting in a vehicle in the 6400 block of South Marshfield at approximately 9:15 a.m., according to police. The man was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center after a man on foot walked up to his vehicle and shot him.
• At approximately 10 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Michigan Avenue, a 22-year-old man was shot in the left calf, according to police. He was self-transported to Mercy Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
• In the 11600 block of South Throop just after 2:30 p.m., a 21-year-old man was outside of a residence when a vehicle drove past and a person inside opened fire, striking the victim in the right calf, police said. He was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition. 
• A 19-year-old man is in stable condition after he was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 5100 block of South Talman, according to police. The man was sitting in the car when another vehicle pulled up alongside it and a person inside opened fire, striking the victim twice in the right arm. He was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, police said. 
• At approximately 6:37 p.m. in the 8600 block of South Talman, a 28-year-old man was shot in the right leg, according to police. The man was taken to Metro South Hospital in stable condition. 
• Police say that a 36-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 7100 block of South Lawndale at approximately 7:17 p.m. Saturday evening. The man was shot multiple times by a person in a passing vehicle. He was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition. 
• At approximately 7:25 p.m., two people were walking eastbound in the 3200 block of West Evergreen Street when a person in a passing vehicle opened fire, striking both victims. A 21-year-old man was shot in the left groin and right thigh, and a 17-year-old boy was shot in the left knee, police said. Both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. 
• A 24-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk in the 0-100 block of East 102nd Place when two men walked up to him and pulled out guns. Both men began firing at him, striking him in the left buttocks. After realizing he had been shot, the man was taken to Christ Hospital in good condition.
