Much of the Chicago area can expect widespread showers and slow-moving thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon into the evening before temperatures drop and winds pick up at night.
Though these storms likely won't be severe, they could produce "gusty winds, small hail and locally heavy rainfall," according to the National Weather Service.
Isolated flooding is also possible through the early evening, mainly near the I-55 corridor.
Strong, gusty winds descend on the region late Wednesday, causing high waves, dangerous swimming conditions and lakeshore flooding.
The high swim risk continues into Thursday along the lakefront in Illinois and Indiana with strong northerly winds continuing through the afternoon, creating highs waves and strong rip currents.
Beaches in Cook County, Porter County and Lake County in Indiana will be most affected.
The National Weather Service expects conditions to quickly improve late Thursday afternoon as winds decrease.
Thunderstorms are possible Friday night into next week with the potential for heavy rainfall and strong storms over the weekend.
