Wintry Weather On Tap

National Weather Service issues a Wind Advisory through midnight Sunday

2012 blew into the Chicago area -- literally -- with winds in excess of 50 mph reported throughout the day. But now comes the cold -- and snow, depending on where you are.

A Winter Storm Warning was issued for LaPorte County in northwest Indiana through Tuesday morning. Lake effect snow is possible late Sunday and into Monday as cold winds blow over the warm lake waters, NBC 5 meteorologist Pete Sack says.

Accumulations of 5-10 inches are possible with blowing and drifting snow.

Some light flurries fell in the Chicago area Sunday afternoon and are possible over the next few days, but no accumulations are expected.

Expect temperatures to drop into the low 20s Monday and Tuesday before creeping back up into the high 30s and 40s toward the middle and end of the week.
