Spooky Forecast: What Can Trick-or-Treaters Expect This Halloween in the Chicago Area?

Will there be snow for the scary holiday?

Will Mother Nature bring a trick or a treat this Halloween?

Early forecast predictions show much colder air will move into the Chicago area next week, possibly bringing the coldest temperatures of the season.

And the cold air could linger through the holiday. An early look indicates temps will only be in the low- to mid-40s come next Thursday, just in time for the trick or treaters.

But will there be snow for the spooky holiday?

There is a very low threat for precipitation and some long-range models indicate a chance for a snowflake or flurry, but others show dry conditions. Long story short, it’s too early to tell for certain, but there is a chance.

What’s Halloween typically like?

The weather on Halloween varies greatly year to year, particularly when it comes to temperatures. And recently, it’s featured quite a bit of rain.

According to the National Weather Service, normal temperatures for the last week of October sit in the mid- to upper-50s with lows in the mid- to upper-30s.

The average high for Oct. 31 is 56 degrees.

The record snowfall for Halloween came just five years ago in 2014, when the area saw one-tenth of an inch.

Here’s a look at the last four Halloweens:

2017    40       Mostly cloudy

2016    61       Partly Sunny
