Following a wet weekend, another band of heavy rain producing storms developed in the western part of the Chicago area early Monday bringing downpours, lightning, small hail and gusty winds. The storms impacted the morning rush hour, flooding streets and causing limited visibility, particularly in the northern suburbs, with commuters advised to use caution and allow extra travel time.

That round of storms began to move out of the area in the morning, but another band of storms was expected to develop in the late afternoon and evening, bringing the same conditions and a slight risk of severe weather. The latest models showed the storms beginning around 4 p.m. - just in time to impact the evening commute.
